If you want a crystal-clear example of why Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) is a disaster for democracy, look no further than New York City.
Thanks to this convoluted, backdoor system, a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist, Zohran Mamdani, just clinched the Democratic mayoral primary—even though he wasn’t the top choice for most voters.
Let’s be blunt: RCV is a Trojan horse for fringe candidates.
It allows radicals to sneak into power by gaming the system—winning not because they earned the most support, but because they were the least offensive second or third choice. Mamdani didn’t win because a majority of New Yorkers wanted him. He won because the system redistributed votes from eliminated candidates until he floated to the top.
Thank goodness Idaho voters rejected this lunacy by almost 40% when we defeated Prop 1.
